An Epic in Four Parts (Part IV)

  • Media : Acrylic on canvas
  • Dimension : 70 x 90 cm
  • Year : 2023
  • Description :

The final part serves as the epilogue of this epic. After the endless fighting shown in part III, now we have arrived at the end of this universe’s existence. The two suns, once hanging from the sky as the two pillars of life, are seen devouring each other in their deaths, symbolizing how the natural duality of things stopped the moment existence itself ended. A sole survivor sits in the barren, frozen landscape next to the broken crown of the giant, looking up to the sky as they cradle the body of their last remaining sibling from the ‘other’. Remains of the weapons and bodies from both sides are scattered on the ground, slowly buried by the fallen snow from what will soon be an eternal winter. The scene is framed by Belladonas and ivy (now in the color of rusted blood) covering a series of wooden wheels spun by three anthropomorphic spiders. The spiders represent the three fates working together to spin, weave, and eventually cut the life of a people.

Out of the four parts, part IV is the one where the lens is now turned to the future. Upon reflecting on the ever present cycle in part I, II, and III, I cannot help but wonder if such is the fated existence of a people. Will this cycle never end until only one person standing, or will we somehow able to divert our course from this self-inflicted destruction? How could we, as collective consciousness, learn from our experience and live a more fulfilling, equal, and peaceful existence? As I see our people constantly fighting one another for the sake of justifying one’s own banner or existence, and to prevent the loss of comfort at the cost of ‘lesser other’, I believe the answer is yet to be found.
